Note: The Professional Development Awards are biennial, they will be awarded in 2011, with applications due late 2010.
The next round of Professional Development Awards will be awarded in 2013, with applications due late 2012.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be not less than 18 years of age on 1 January 2011
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or have been legally resident in New Zealand for a minimum of two consecutive years on 1 January 2011
- Applicants may only apply for one category of Award
- Applications may only be made by individual writers (Co-writers should nominate separately)
- Previous winners of an APRA Professional Development Award are ineligible to apply
Categories
The Award Categories to be reviewed by the judging panels are:
- Popular Contemporary (including Pop, Rock, Country, Blues, Folk, Hip Hop, Dance and R&B)
- Classical
- Film and Television
How the PDAs are determined
All complete and eligible applications will be assessed by an independent judging panel, who determine the winning recipients in each genre category.
The Awards will be announced and presented at a date to be advised in February 2011.
How to Apply
Select the appropriate category in which you wish to submit your application. You may receive an Award in ONE category only.
All information should be typed and submitted in an Application Form. Every detail requested must be submitted - refer to About the Application Form. Note: incomplete Applications will not be accepted for consideration.
Application forms must be accompanied by a CD. Each CD must have 15 – 20 minutes worth of material.
For the Popular Contemporary category, lyrics must be supplied and for Classical works scores should be included. Such materials will only be returned if accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.
