Andrew McDowall

Andrew is an award-winning composer for Film, Television and commercial productions. He is also a member of the internationally acclaimed band Batucada Sound Machine. His commercial clients have included Greggs, Arnotts, Telecom, Westpac, VW, Cadbury, NZ Lotteries and Burgerking. Films he has worked on include: Grass (Stockholm festival Worldwide winner award), Banana in a nutshell (Best documentary DOCNZ) and Us (NZ screen award best short film nomination).

Barnaby Weir

Barnaby is a cornerstone of our capital’s music scene – most well-known for being the front man of The Black Seeds, he is also one of the founders of Fly My Pretties and has his own side project Flash Harry. The Black Seeds have countless sell-out New Zealand and Australasian tours behind them, and regularly perform at many of Europe and North America’s biggest festivals. Fly My Pretties is a well loved, critically acclaimed live multimedia musical collaboration that needs to be seen to be believed.

Te Awanui Reeder

Songwriter, singer & radio host, Awa is one of the nation’s most loved personalities. He has won numerous awards, including the 2003 Silver Scroll Award (with Nesian Mystik ‘For The People’), and the 2010 Most Performed Work Award (co-writing ‘Cruel’ by Dane Rumble). Nesian Mystik are a New Zealand music success story – with record breaking sales chart success & countless accolades. Although Nesian Mystik has ‘retired’ after a decade together, this is only the beginning of what will be a long career for Awa.

Dianne Swann

Dianne was an original member of When The Cat’s Away, and now, she is one half of The Bads, with Brett Adams. From their 1992 London base, the duo went from The Julie Dolphin, to Boom Boom Mancini, to The Bads. They have collaborated with the likes of Radiohead, and are applauded by Billy Corgan, Lucinda Williams and Frank Black. Dianne’s list of collaborations is too long to do justice here. Alongside creating works for the band, Dianne also composes for film and television productions.

Graeme Downes

The Verlaines were formed by Graeme Downes in 1981, a seminal band who were released on the now infamous Dunedin Double EP that launched the career of several Flying Nun bands. Since then the band have released nine albums, countless singles and an EP while gathering fans around the world with songs that combine classical composition, romanticism and pop. These days Downes has a PhD (for his thesis on Gustav Mahler) and lectures the rock music degree which he established at Otago University.

Flip Grater

Flip Grater has been involved in the New Zealand and international music industry since 2001. Singer, songwriter, author, and owner of record label Maiden Records Flip dabbles in music management, video production, event production and cooking. Flip’s music has established her as one of our country's beloved indie-folk artists. With over six years of creating a sound she is renowned for, the release of an EP, three critically acclaimed albums, a published book and a tour history that takes her through 11 or so countries, she is seasoned.

Joel Little

As vocalist and one of the founders of Goodnight Nurse Joel is often described as one of the nicest people in the industry. Goodnight Nurse earned their stripes playing Auckland club venues, followed by two mammoth Schools Tours in New Zealand and Australia. Two Top 5 album releases and a bevvy of radio singles later, Goodnight Nurse is currently on hiatus. Joel isn’t though- he is one of the people behind Dryden St, the independent record label with Kids of 88 and Like You Crazy currently on their books.

John Psathas

John Psathas is one of New Zealand’s most frequently performed composers. With performances in venues from Windsor Castle to Kalamazoo, Jakarta to Bermuda, Japan to Alaska, and Hong Kong to Tel Aviv, he has established and maintains an international reputation. In 2004 Psathas achieved the largest audience for New Zealand-composed music when billions heard his music at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympics. This high-profile work was recognised by his appointment as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Additionally, his Piano Concerto was awarded the SOUNZ Contemporary Award at the Silver Scroll Awards (the second time he has won this award).

Paora Apera

Paora Apera - or as you may know him as P Digsss - has been a member of Shapeshifter since 2003. Heralded as nothing short of a phenomenon thanks to their groundbreaking live performances and amazing blend of heavy soul and drum & bass, Shapeshifter have earned critical acclaim not only in New Zealand and Australia, but also around Europe. Paora, a proud Cook Islander, is also a part of Sunshine Sound System, a collaboration with Downtown Brown and MCs KPz & Switch.

Demetrius Savelio

Demetrius Savelio, best known as Savage, is now one of New Zealand’s most successful exports. Originating from the group Deceptikonz, who had huge domestic success, Savage is now focusing on his solo work. In 2009 he became the first NZ hip hop artist to have a single reach platinum status in the United Status for selling excess of one million units. He continues to work with local and international artists, with a new album being heavily promoted in the US. His MySpace page has reached the 4.5million views mark and continues to rise.

Joost Langeveld

Joost started his musical career in the early 80's as a bass player and later extended his skills into synth/midi programming and music production. Over the last 25 years he has written music for a wide variety of purposes – both commercial and creative. He currently works as a successful producer/composer and runs boutique music facility ‘BigPop Music’ with business partner Chris van de Geer. Joost was also board member of Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) for five years, acting as vice chairman for three of those years.

Mike Hall

Mike Hall is a bass player, composer and song writer. He was a member of Pluto, producing several acclaimed albums and touring extensively. He now fronts the band Nightchoir. In addition, Mike has played with many of NZ’s top musicians, including Balance, The Brunettes and Dimmer. He currently plays with The Anna Coddington Band, Steve Abel and the Chrysalids. In his spare time, Mike also composes for TV and film.
